Arsenal eye up Dutch defender

Daryl Janmaat, Feyenoord defender

Arsenal scouts have been in Holland watching Feyenoord defender Daryl Janmaat, according to The Metro

The Gunners are searching for possible right-backs to take the place of Bacary Sagna who is set for a summer exit from the Emirates. They were hoping to extend his current deal which runs out in may 2014, but Sagna is unhappy with the terms and hasn’t signed the extension.

23-year-old Daryl Janmaat has been watched by Arsenal scouts and he has caught their eye. They spotted him when they were watching Jordy Clasie in December and they returned to observe the defender in three different games.

The defender has had a great season so far and has scored twice in 23 appearances and will also appear for the Dutch national team over the next few months.

Jaanmat was interviewed by Dutch magazine Voetbal last week and they asked about a possible move to The Emirates.

“Arsenal’s interest in me? I’m only thinking about Feyenoord right now,” he said.

“Much remains to be played this season before thinking about the transfer market at the end of the season.”

Arsenal also have Mouhamadou Dabo and Serge Aurier on their wishlist and will be scouting them in the run up to the next transfer window.
