The Ghanaian midfielder – half-brother of former Manchester City and now Bayern Munich ace, Jerome – has just 18 months left on his contract with the Gelsenkirchen giants and has been told that he will be allowed to leave when the transfer window re-opens if a club bids £10m.
This is understood to have alerted Arsenal, with Arsene Wenger keen to add to his central ranks.
Boateng is capable in an attacking or defensive role in midfield, and has been lauded for his physicality and eye for goal in the past.
He has, however, endured a tough season this term with Schalke, failing to find the back of the net in 16 appearances.
But, at 27 he’s in, arguably, the peak years of his career.
