Arsenal face battle for Serie A talent

Sime Vrsaljko (Genoa)Arsenal will have to fight hard to seal a deal for Genoa defender Sime Vrsaljko, according to reports from The Express.

The Gunners have been strongly linked with a move for the Croatian right-back, and even had scouts in attendance during his nation’s recent clash with Belgium.

A January move has been mooted, with Arsene Wenger believed to be lining up potential replacements for Bacary Sagna.

But, Genoa coach Gian Piero Gasperini says that he will not allow Vrsaljko to leave the club this winter.

“They [Arsenal] want him, but this January? We need all our players available. It is important everyone stays together,” Gasperini said.

The 21-year-old’s agent, Nikky Vuksan, also said that his client is happy to stay in Italy:

“Playing for Genoa is an honour for him and he’s very happy here. Will he leave in January or June? It’s hard to say now because it’s up to the club.”

Vrsaljko only joined Genoa over the summer, and has made a fine start to life in Serie A.

He is believed to be valued at around £12.5m due to his fine early-season displays.

Sagna’s future at Arsenal is the subject of much doubt, with his contract entering its closing stages.

Should Arsenal move for Sime Vrsaljko?
