Arsenal may have to go head to head with Chelsea for the signature of CSKA Moscow midfielder Aleksandr Golovin as the Blues have entered the race, according to Sport24.

What's the story?

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has previously claimed that he is impressed by Golovin’s skill, particularly in the Europa League.

The 21-year-old scored against the Gunners in their quarter-final tie last week, and it is believed that a bid could be launched this summer.

Sport24 claim, though, that Chelsea are prepared to enter the fray as club owner Roman Abramovich has a personal interest in signing the young Russian.

The publication adds that if Golovin were to move to Stamford Bridge, he would immediately be loaned out to Vitesse Arnhem.

Are Arsenal a better option?

Both clubs will provide decent experience for the midfielder’s development, but at Chelsea there is a big danger that he will not make it into the first team.

The West London outfit are known for having plenty of talented youngsters that rarely progress.

Most of the time, options for the hopefuls include leaving Chelsea permanently or spend most of their careers on loan.

At Arsenal, the club have been in a transitional period for the last few seasons and due to the uncertainty around Wenger’s future, changes could be afoot.

Golovin is unlikely to immediately cement a starting spot at either club, but he may have more chances at the Emirates.
