According to reports from ESPN, Arsenal have joined the race to sign Boca Juniors prodigy Rodrigo Bentancur.
The midfielder is just 18 years of age but has already registered over 26 league outings for the Argentinean outfit, helping them claim the Primeira Division title and the Copa Argentina for 2015.
ESPN describe him as ‘one of the brightest young talents in South America’ who is ‘tipped to become one of the best midfielders in the world’.
According to the American news outlet, Arsenal scouts ran the rule over the young Uruguayan last Thursday, during a 3-1 win over Bolivar.
However, the north Londoners are by no means alone in the race to sign the defensive midfielder, with La Liga giants Real Madrid and Serie A champions Juventus also keen on the Boca hot shot.
Arsenal drew 3-3 with West Ham on Saturday and now find themselves 13 points behind league leaders Leicester City in the Premier League table.
