Arsenal fans are gutted that they missed out on signing Antoine Griezmann

Arsenal could have signed Barcelona striker Antoine Griezmann had they qualified for the Champions League in 2017, as revealed by David Ornstein in a live Q&A on The Athletic.

The World Cup winner moved to the Catalan giants in the summer after they paid the €120m (£103.6m) buyout clause to release the Frenchman from Atletico Madrid. However, there was an opportunity two years earlier that the Gunners did not capitalise on.

It is claimed that the France international would have moved to north London had Arsenal finished in the Premier League’s top four positions, per the aforementioned report.

During the 2017/18 campaign, Griezmann scored 19 goals in 32 La Liga appearances and went on to win the Europa League after knocking the Gunners out at the semi-final stage of the competition.

Arsenal fans were very disappointed with the news as it will forever be a mystery as to how the Frenchman would have performed in the Gunners’ colours.

One fan said “why always us” with a number posting gifs summing up their disappointment.
