Arsenal fans backing Bernd Leno to step up in the Premier League

Arsenal goalkeeper and current captain Petr Cech has been ruled out for up to four weeks due a hamstring injury he sustained in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Watford at the Emirates. The 36-year-old went down on the stroke of half-time after taking a goal-kick, immediately signalling to his manager that he wants to be replaced.

That meant that new signing Bernd Leno made his first Premier League appearance since joining the Gunners in the summer. Arsenal fans have sympathised with Cech’s injury but are excited about the prospect of the German being used in the Premier League more often. Many thought he would be the first-choice keeper when Unai Emery signed him from Bayer Leverkusen but the manager seemingly opted with Cech for leadership reasons.

Arsenal fans are now hoping Leno can deliver on his opportunity and prove that he is the best fit for the position.

The Gunners travel to Baku on Wednesday for their Europa League encounter with Qarabag and Leno has been included in the squad. Arsenal also have an away game at Fulham in the Premier League on Sunday.
