Mesut Ozil put in a fine display on Saturday as Arsenal secured victory over Newcastle United at St James’ Park. The German playmaker was making his 200th appearance for the Gunners and marked the occasion with a fine finish to bag his side’s second, and ultimately match-winning, goal.
Ozil has been far from his best so far this season, but against the Magpies he reminded the Premier League of his enduring quality. In his 200 games for the North London club to date, the 29-year-old has registered 38 goals and 66 assists in the famous red and white. On top of that, he also holds the record for being the fastest player to reach fifty assists in Premier League history.
If Unai Emery can continue to coax the best out of his No. 10 for the rest of the season then the Gunners could be set for a fine campaign indeed. After the triumph over Newcastle, many Arsenal fans took to Twitter to praise their star man…

Today’s game is an excellent response to criticism that he unduly received.
