Arsenal fans concerned superstar won’t sign new contract

Mesut Ozil is the best thing since sliced bread at Arsenal – but fans of the north London giants are genuinely concerned that the World Cup winner may not extend his contract.

Ozil, who signed from Real Madrid for a club-record fee in 2013, sees his current deal expire in 2018 but Arsenal are keen to cement his future at the club and have opened talks with the Germany international about a new deal.

However, with Arsene Wenger admitting Arsenal have to break the bank to keep their star man, Gooners are worried that Ozil may elect to move elsewhere, particularly if Arsenal fail to prove their worth in the battle for trophies this season – they have not won the Premier League since 2004 and last reached the semi-finals of the Champions League in 2009.

Given the concerns, Arsenal fans are praying Wenger pulls out all the stops and gives Ozil whatever he needs to sign a new contract but, with the Frenchman notoriously tight with his cash, it wouldn’t be too surprising if another top-class player slipped through Arsenal’s net…
