Arsenal are reportedly set to appoint Unai Emery as Arsene Wenger’s successor, and Gunners fans are confident that powerful Sevilla midfielder Steven Nzonzi, rated at £27m by Transfermarkt, will be his first signing.
The 46-year-old will arrive at the north London outfit having been sacked by Paris Saint-Germain, and he will look to get to work straightaway in the transfer market in order to try and lift a club that struggled during Arsene Wenger’s final season in charge.
One position he may look to strengthen is in the defensive midfield position, and he may have the answer with a player in Nzonzi he knows well having worked with the Sevilla midfielder during his time at the helm of the La Liga side.
Arsenal supporters, the majority of whom want to see Hector Bellerin replaced by a 26-year-old Frenchman at right-back this summer, have been quick to have their say on a potential reunion between Emery and the former Blackburn Rovers and Stoke City star on Twitter.
While one said a deal is “nailed on”, another said “Nzonzi would be a monumental signing for us”.
Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…
Would not be surprised to see N'Zonzi follow Emery into the Emirates. A lot of people see him as a Stoke reject but I think he is underrated and would add much needed steel to our midfield.

Saying that, Arsenal board also need to support him fully and buy smart. £50 million budget is a myth, Arsenal will spend over £100 million this summer. Think N'Zonzi will be one of Emery's top targets. Surprised they didn't go the long term approach for Arteta or for Jardim.

If Emery brings some of his former players with him to Arsenal, I would sell my soul for him to bring in Rabiot.
N'Zonzi would be a monumental signing for us and Lo Celso alleviates Verratti and Rabiot's absence despite being only 20.

It would not surprise me that Emery went to try and sign Steven Nzonzi

Is Unai Emery just a ploy for us to finally sign Steven Nzonzi?

Yes so there’s a relationship there. If we were to add Seri to replace Santi & N’zonzi to be an upgrade for Xhaka it would already be a positive turn around in my opinion. Would love to pick up a CB + Leno as well. We have enough attacking options, now time to upgrade the spine.
