Things continue to go from bad to worse for Arsenal as they trail Brighton and Hove Albion 2-1 at the break in their latest Premier League clash, and Gunners fans have been quick to destroy defender Shkodran Mustafi, rated at £25.2m by Transfermarkt, for his performance in the opening 45 minutes.

The north London outfit would have been looking to bounce back from successive 3-0 defeats against Manchester City in the League Cup final and then in the top flight at the Emirates Stadium on Thursday night, but they made the worst possible start as Lewis Dunk gave the Seagulls the lead in the seventh minute.

Arsene Wenger's men showed little sign of bringing the scores level before Laurent Koscielny gave the ball away and Mustafi lost Glenn Murrray and then didn't jump for the header as the striker added a second, although Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang brought them back into the contest just before the interval.

Arsenal supporters took to social media to give their thoughts on Mustafi's first-half display, and while one said described him as "the worst player we've ever had", another said "Mustafi needs to be sold with the quickest of urgency".

Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…
