The search for Arsene Wenger's successor does not appear to have progressed very far in the months before the Frenchman officially confirmed his departure from the Emirates Stadium so Arsenal are attempting to scour Europe at a great pace to find the right man to take the reigns.

According to reports by French outlet L'Equipe, former Barcelona manager Luis Enrique has been targeted by the North London club about succeeding Wenger.

The 47-year-old, who has also attracted interest from Chelsea amid the uncertainty over Antonio Conte's future is clearly right in the mix for the Gunners job but the natives do not appear impressed.

Diego Simeone, Joachim Low and Max Allegri have all been put forward as preferable candidates to the Spaniard, as doubts persist over his ability to organise the Gunners defence into a robust unit.
