Unai Emery's appointment as Arsenal manager has - after a false start - been officially confirmed by the club, signalling the dawn of a new era at the Emirates Stadium following the departure of Arsene Wenger.

The former PSG and Sevilla manager replaced Mikel Arteta as the frontrunner to replace the legendary Frenchman at the 11th hour and brings with him experience of winning trophies, managing elite players and getting teams to punch above their weight.

He may not be the sentimental appointment to get the fans buzzing like Mikel Arteta, Thierry Henry or Patrick Vieira would have been but he is vastly more experienced than those figures.

In any case, the Gunners fans, who have spent the last few years largely lobbying for Wenger's removal - in truth, often without much consideration for who may come in instead - appear to be suitably excited about the prospect of going into the new season under Emery's guidance.
