Having crumbled in the closing stages of the season to miss out on Champions League football next season, Arsenal head into the summer with a reported budget of just £40m.

Unai Emery's side have been linked with a host of names in recent weeks and reports had earlier suggested that one of the Gunners' prime targets was Crystal Palace talisman Wilfried Zaha - a matter complicated by the Eagles' asking price.

But in an update from the Daily Mail, the Ivory Coast international - who is valued at £40.5m by Transfermarkt - has seemingly told the Palace hierarchy that he wants the club to allow him to move to Arsenal and has urged them to lower their valuation in order for it to happen.

The latest news saw Gunners fans take to Twitter and many were understandably feeling excited that their chances of signing Zaha this summer may still be alive.

Many urged the north London side to bring the self-professed Arsenal fan home and hoped Palace would give into Zaha's demands.

Others however were far more pessimistic that the Gunners could pull such a deal off, particularly with their financial limitations and joked whether their Premier League rivals would be willing to agree to a loan with an obligation to buy.
