Arsenal have been dismal away from home this season and they are still waiting for their first Premier League point on the road in 2018 after the 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United on Sunday.

That result, combined with Chelsea's stunning 3-2 comeback win against Southampton on Saturday, should put paid to any faint hopes the Gunners had of coming fifth in the league this season.

In actual fact, Arsene Wenger's side find themselves just two points ahead of Burnley, who sit seventh, and have to host Sean Dyche's overachieving side before the season is out.

Arsenal have lacked conviction and backbone for so many years now under Wenger that being continually rolled over on the road feels like some kind of parody of themselves.
