Being given the number nine role ahead of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, a lot of faith has been shown in Alexandre Lacazette to deliver the goods for Arsenal. Unfortunately for the France international, he has dropped short of the standard required to lead the line, with his team-mate's goal-scoring form only adding to the scrutiny placed on him.

Aubameyang has netted twelve times in 18 games across all competitions, whilst Lacazette has managed just five in 12. The latter's underlying numbers for this season paints a worrying picture of his decline. As per Whoscored, he averages less dribbles (0.9), less passes (19.3) per game, and his overall match rating has gone down too (7.12). And against Brighton on Thursday night. the Frenchman was not at his best once again despite finding himself on the score-sheet, making just nine accurate passes and losing six aerial duels.

A couple of supporters even suggested Lacazette is significantly worse than former Gunners striker Olivier Giroud, who the north London side sold to Chelsea.

Some fans urged Freddie Ljungberg to drop Lacazette to the bench, with a few clamouring for Brazilian starlet Gabriel Martinelli to make his way into the team - the teenager has scored seven times in 13 appearances this season.

If Ljungberg does decide to drop Lacazette to the bench, then it could also mean a return to the number nine role for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang - a position in which he has scored 175 goals in 270 games as per Transfermarkt. It's a difficult decision no doubt, but a brave one that could bring rich rewards.

Meanwhile, Arsenal fans have hammered this ace who made just six passes against Brighton.
