Eddie Nketiah was handed his first start of the season by Unai Emery on Thursday night as Arsenal cruised to a 3-0 victory over Vorskla Poltava in a Europa League match in Kiev.
Two of the Gunners’ goals came courtesy of Nketiah’s fellow academy graduates, Emile Smith Rowe and Joe Willock, whilst one of the north London outfit’s more senior stars, Aaron Ramsey, also converted from the penalty spot.
Though Nketiah couldn’t find the back of the net himself, the 19-year-old striker was still one of the stars of the show. The intelligent movement, hard running and technical level he displayed will certainly encourage plenty of Arsenal fans that the England under-21 international has what it takes to make the breakthrough into the first team at the Emirates Stadium.
After his all-action display on Thursday night, plenty of Arsenal fans took to Twitter to heap praise on the promising Lewisham-born forward.
Coldest game I have attended (apparently Ostersunds was colder). Very impressed with the AFC youth, especially Nketiah. No need to look for Welbs replacement. A shame the picture looks like a Spurs Wembley League Cup home game! pic.twitter.com/SW3uuY4I0a

Really excited for Smith-rowe, Nelson and Nketiah to make it at Arsenal. Willock looked good too.

Yh Nketiah is very good if you watch him over time. People do think he’s just a poacher but has other good attributes. Willock is the one i think who won’t make it.

Great performance tonight from the young lads. Smith-Rowe was brilliant as was Willock. Nketiah led the line well and had some good dribbles. 3 goals and a clean sheet. Top of the group. Job done. On to the big one Sunday. #UEL #AFC #COYG

Nketiah might not have scored but he’s been absolutely brilliant. Chasing everything down, taking defenders on and creating a few chances as well. My MOTM
