The first-half of Arsenal’s second game in 2017 is proving to be a disaster for the Gunners, who surprisingly fell two goals behind to Premier League minnows Bournemouth and look set for a third consecutive away defeat in the league.
After Charlie Daniels took advantage of sloppy defending to give the hosts the lead, Arsenal’s summer signing Granit Xhaka handed Eddie Howe’s side a late Christmas gift with an awful challenge to give Bournemouth a penalty.
Callum Wilson stepped-up to double Bournemouth’s advantage from the spot and Arsenal Twitter was understandably furious with the man they spent over £30m to bring to the club, with fingers being pointed at the Swiss international.
It’s difficult to argue that Arsenal fans were being unfair in their criticism and it’s a big worry for the Gunners, who have Santi Cazorla injured, Mohamed Elneny at the African Cup of Nations and saw Francis Coquelin hobble off in the first-half.
What even is that? Why on earth would you do that? Xhaka you idiot.

Xhaka is the biggest liability, class passer but can never be trusted.

Wenger's insistence on using Xhaka as a box-to-box midfielder negates some of his best attributes and highlights his weaknesses

Has to be the dumbest way to concede a penalty since Eboue vs Liverpool back 2011. Unforgivable from Xhaka

Xhaka: This is an important game we need to win lets play well.

It's more than fair to say that #Xhaka has had a horrible game so far. Poor corners, poor free kick, and now a very stupid penalty.

Xhaka had no business conceding that penalty. He had cover.

Idiotic penalty from Xhaka. Man had no support, shepherd him to the line. How does Cech never guess the right way on penalties? #Arsenal
