Danny Welbeck was one of the names in Gareth Southgate's England squad that raised the most eyebrows.

The former Manchester United man has never been the most prolific striker but there were calls for other forwards who have scored more often than Welbeck this sesaon to get the call-up instead.

So the striker - valued at £13.5m by Transfermarkt - chose the perfect time to net twice as Arsenal saw off Milan again in the second leg of their Europa League last 16 tie.

It was not without controversy, however, as Welbeck took a tumble under the slightest of contact with the Gunners 1-0 down on the night, in the penalty area.

He dusted himself down to get Arsenal back level and that was the springboard for a performance that brought praise on Twitter from Arsenal fans.

Welbeck's career has stalled on more than one occasion but Arsenal fans will be hoping this isn't yet another false dawn. We've taken a closer look at the best of the reaction...
