Alan Smith might have only scored twice for England, but he managed 115 goals in 347 appearances for Arsenal between 1987 and 1995.
Smith will be remembered by the younger generation as a commentator for Sky Sports, but he certainly knew how to find the back of the net during his playing career.
He won four trophies during his time at Arsenal, including the UEFA Cup Winners Cup during the 1993-94 campaign.
It was Smith’s 55th birthday on Tuesday, and as expected, the club’s Twitter account were on hand with a message, which was followed by Arsenal fans offering their views on the former striker.
Having started his professional career with non-league club Alvechurch, Smith represented Leicester City between 1982 and 1987 before joining Arsenal, where he won two Golden Boots.
Known for his ability in the air – as many FIFA players will know due to the many in-game comments surrounding his aerial prowess – Smith was a perfect example of the old-fashioned centre-forward.
