Most of the time, fans who witness their players move to a rival club wash their hands of said footballer.
The same thing happened when Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain left Arsenal to sign for Liverpool last summer.
The midfielder spent six years at the Gunners but after dropping down the pecking order, he sought pastures new at Anfield.
It took time for the 24-year-old to find his stride, but he eventually became an integral member of Jurgen Klopp’s team.
During the Reds’ Champions League semi-final first leg against Roma, Oxlade-Chamberlain was struck down with a serious knee injury that ended his season.
It was a devastating blow for the England international, who missed out on the European final, as well as the World Cup in Russia.
Many assumed that after undergoing surgery Oxlade-Chamberlain would be back in action by the winter, but on Wednesday, Klopp revealed to the media that the midfielder is unlikely to feature at all throughout the 2018-19 campaign.
The German coach admitted that the player and club were aware of this from the get-go, but Oxlade-Chamberlain wanted the news to stay quiet to prevent any distractions during the end of the season.
Since the devastating blow was revealed, Arsenal fans have put rivalry aside to wish their former player well.
Obviously fuming that the Ox left us when he did, he only had to wait 1 season for a new manager. Defintely feel sorry for him though…. he will always be injury prone in my opinion, no different to the AFC days …

Knee ligament injuries are the those worst for any level of player, 2 ACL reconstructions has mentally jaded me. Ox will come back stronger 🐂⚽️ https://t.co/9J3gqD5pkT

Having said all of that, I wouldn’t wish such an injury on any footballer & I wish him a speedy & full recovery. pic.twitter.com/epCvdRVjAG

Regardless of my views on the ox since his move to liverpool it’s terrible to hear that he’ll be missing an entire season due to injury. Wish him all the best with his recovery

Harsh for Ox on a personal level, CL final, World Cup and now a full PL season. That’s Tough.
As AFC fan, I’ve seen it all before. Didn’t over achieve at Liverpool. It’s what he is. He pattern is the following ;
Gets form>plays well for weeks > gets injured /loses form. Repeat.

Honestly, I was unhappy with the way Ox left AFC. Was very glad to get ~£40m for a disinterested-looking player with 1yr left. But to see such a promising youngster, coming into his own in great form suffer such a devastating injury is so sad. Hope he comes back stronger!!

So Ox has officially had a career-limiting injury.
Got to feel sorry for him. You never know who’s going to get hit by one.
