France Football announced their 30-man shortlist for the Ballon D’Or yesterday and Arsenal fans were extremely unhappy to see one of their star players not included.
Alexis Sanchez guided his national side, Chile, to a second consecutive Copa America victory over the course of the summer and won the award for the best player in the competition, as well as putting in superb performances for Arsenal once again.
However, whilst the likes of Leicester City duo Riyad Mahrez and Jamie Vardy made the shortlist alongside West Ham United and France international Dimitri Payet, Alexis was a notable absentee.
The fact that none of the aforementioned Premier League players, or Alexis himself, would win the Ballon d’Or due to competition with Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Luis Suarez and Neymar isn’t important to these fans, who believe it’s yet another slight against their beloved team.
In truth, Alexis certainly deserved to have his name up there – perhaps more so than Dimitri Payet, which may suggest some sort of French bias.
Alexis not nominated for Ballon D'Or? Deserved it so much more than some ..shame FIFA & this competition will be corrupt .

The fact that Alexis Sanchez won the Copa America and Copa America Player of the tournament should give him at least Ballon d'Or nomination

Alexis won player of the tournament in last year's Copa America but he's not nominated for the Ballon d'or. Meanwhile Payet and Pogba…..

Nothing new but the ballon d'or list is once again a joke. Alexis Sanchez deserved to make the list much more than some who did.

How Özil and Alexis aren't on the Ballon d'Or shortlist but Pogba and Koke are is beyond a joke #Arsenal

Alexis Sanchez not on the Ballon D'Or nominees? And they wonder why we can't take that award seriously. No N'Golo Kante either.
