Arsenal Football Club sent a birthday message to former midfielder Abou Diaby from their official Twitter account on Friday, and Gunners fans were quick to react.

The Frenchman's 10-year spell with the north London outfit was overshadowed by injury problems, and despite making a huge impact at times, he made just 22 appearances in his final four campaigns as he struggled to get fit and back to his best.

The midfielder then joined Marseille in 2015 after making 180 outings and scoring 19 goals for Arsene Wenger's men, but he once again struggled to make an impression with the Ligue 1 giants, and after six appearances in all competitions he retired from football last summer.

Arsenal supporters – the majority of whom have backed a summer move for Real Madrid attacker Gareth Bale – took to social media to give their thoughts on their former star, and while one said "we miss you so much", another said he is "without doubt the biggest waste of talent Arsenal has ever had".
