According to Spanish media outlet El Desmarque, new Arsenal manager Unai Emery is ready to give forgotten forward Lucas Perez an opportunity to impress in pre-season training on his return from a loan spell with Deportivo La Coruna, and Gunners fans have been quick to react to the rumour.

The 29-year-old's future at the Emirates Stadium looked to be in doubt after he was sent back on loan to the La Liga side Deportivo La Coruna following a tough debut campaign for the north London outfit, in which he made just 21 appearances.

However, after netting nine times and providing a further eight assists for the Spanish club in 37 outings in total this term, Emery is reportedly ready to give his national compatriot a chance to stake his claim for a spot on the wing or as a back-up striker next term, and he could be competing with the likes of Alex Iwobi and Danny Welbeck.

Arsenal supporters, who will not be impressed with Emery's potential plan for Mesut Ozil in the 2018/19 campaign, took to social media to give their thoughts on the story, and while one said "hope Perez can be like Pires for us next season", another simply said he is a "Welbeck replacement".

Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction...
