Despite the prominence of Arsenal's academy players during pre-season this summer, one man who will not have the chance to continue to impress at the Emirates is Dominic Thompson.
The 21-year-old was handed an opportunity by Unai Emery to battle for a spot against the likes of Nacho Monreal and Sead Kolasinac in the left-back spot, but his run in the first-team is now over.
As confirmed on the Gunners' official website, Thompson has completed a permanent transfer to Championship side Brentford, with The Telegraph journalist Sam Dean revealing the move could rake in £3m, rising to £4m, for the north London side.
After hearing about Thompson's exit, Arsenal fans took to Twitter to share their thoughts on the academy graduate's career update.
Many supporters praised the 21-year-old for "taking one for the team" due to the prospective arrival of Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney, and hailed him as a "true Gunner" for sacrificing himself.
Indeed, following Dean's report about the reported fee involved, Arsenal fans hailed Raul Sanllehi for managing to get a decent sum of money for a "young rookie".
