Arsenal extended their winning run across all competitions to six matches on Wednesday evening after sweeping aside Brentford to put their name in the hat for Saturday’s Carabao Cup fourth-round draw.
The Gunners secured a hard-fought 3-1 victory over the Championship side thanks to goals from Danny Welbeck and Alexandre Lacazette, while teenage sensation Emile Smith-Rowe was handed his first competitive start.
Smith-Rowe made his first-team debut off the bench in last weekend’s Europa League victory over Vorskla and the match against Brentford was the latest opportunity for the Gunners’ academy graduate to show his talent.
While he was not on the scoresheet and did not contribute an assist, the performance of the 18-year-old earned praise on social media from fans who have been getting carried away with just how good the attacking midfielder can become.
We have gathered some of the best reactions to Smith-Rowe’s performance below as fans praised his contribution.
I said it with Fabregas, I said it with Wilshere, I said it with Reiss Nelson. Now I’ll say it with Emile Smith-Rowe… we have to hold on to this guy!

I think the worst thing we as fans can do right now is to overhype future five-time Ballon d'Or winner Emile Smith Rowe. Just let North London Messi develop without any pressure please.

Finally figured out who Smith Rowe reminds me of. It's Arshavin.

We have Smith-Rowe progressing nicely, and Guendouzi settling in already. Would Ramsey be a great loss?

Iwobi brought out the skills last night! Thought Smith Rowe looked very promising. Was a really good game and Brentford played some nice football too! 👏 Considering the amount of empty seats at times the atmosphere was fantastic we just lack more chants 😊

I’m really happy we won but for me this is a worthless competition, only really fit to aid the development of youth and I feel we missed an opportunity to do that tonight. Was great to see Smith-Rowe get his chance but disappointed for Nketiah and Willock, who earned a chance.

Smith-Rowe is really exciting to watch. He's got a while before he breaks through, but once he is polished, he will be a problem 👀

Just got home. First half dominant, second half mostly outplayed. Iwobi, Welbeck, Holding, Lacazette good. Guendouzi good until he gave away a stupid foul for their goal. Everyone else a bit average or worse. Smith Rowe showed flashes of his talent. Torreira steadied us.

Smith Rowe got in the box twice and fluffed his chance. He needs to be more calm. He will improve. The quality is certainly there.
