Arsenal attacker Henrikh Mkhitaryan has made a big step forward in his recovery from injury by playing for the Gunners’ under-23 side on Monday night. After 47 days on the sidelines, Arsenal confirmed that the 30-year-old featured for the club’s youth side in a Premier League 2 clash with West Ham United.

Unai Emery will be delighted to have one of his injured first team stars becoming available again, especially as the 80-cap Armenia international has been a regular starter for the north London club this season.

As per Transfermarkt’s stats, Mkhitaryan has made 20 appearances in all competitions so far this season, registering four goals and three assists.

However, the attacking midfielder has been inconsistent this season, and since his January 2018 switch from Manchester United he has failed to regularly impress at the Emirates Stadium.

Following his return to the field with the under-23s, plenty of Arsenal fans took to Twitter to react to the prospect of Mkhitaryan soon returning to the first team fold…
