Gareth Southgate announced his first England squad at the weekend and, naturally, it generated a lot of discussion.
The former England, Middlesbrough and Aston Villa defender included Glen Johnson in the list of call-ups which generated a pretty negative reaction, something he would have wanted to avoid after what has gone on in the last week concerning the Three Lions.
Southgate has been appointed on an interim basis ahead of the World Cup qualifying games against Malta and Slovenia whilst the FA look for Sam Allardyce’s long-term successor and he’ll have to get off to a winning start just to keep the critics at bay.
He decided to leave Jack Wilshere out of the squad despite the midfielder enjoying a good run of games on loan at Bournemouth from Arsenal and that whipped the Gunners fans into a bit of a frenzy. They want to see someone they still regard highly playing for their nation and let Twitter know exactly what they thought…

No Ross Barkley or Jack Wilshere in the England squad again and only 3 central midfielders. What a mess this national team is in..

Wilshere not in the squad, feel sorry for him, he could've been someone great for Arsenal and England
