Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to voice their discontent over Santi Cazorla being omitted from the Spanish national squad… while Ander Herrera as been selected.
Herrera has been called up ahead of Cazorla by new manager Julen Lopetegui for this month’s 2018 World Cup qualifiers with Italy and Albania. Herrera’s fine form for Manchester United leaves him in line to earn his first senior cap with his national team whilst Cazorla’s showings since his return from injury have, seemingly, not been good enough.
Unlike Cazorla, Herrera isn’t returning from a long-standing injury and is certainly the more youthful option in regard team selection. Despite Arsenal sitting three points ahead of Manchester United, Cazorla was still not selected ahead of his compatriot, with one supporter believing that it was Spanish footballing ‘politics’ that decided his faith.
The selection decision has even made another Arsenal fan “sad”, and here are the best reactions to Lopetegui’s controversial decision.
Andre Herrera has been called into the Spain squad ahead of Santi Cazorla. This is stupid and it makes me sad.

Herrera getting a call up and Cazorla not getting noticed sums up the decline, politics and bias in Spanish football.

Poor Arsenal fans do not know what to make of the decision – we hope for Lopetegui’s sake his call proves a success.
