Arsenal fans surprised that Jenkinson survived transfer deadline day

Carl Jenkinson has been on Arsenal’s books since 2011 when he signed from Charlton Athletic.

The 26-year-old has had spells in the team, but he has struggled to cement a regular position in the first XI.

In fact, the right-back has been sent on loan three times, twice of which were to West Ham United, where he suffered a serious knee injury in January 2016.

Since then, Jenkinson has struggled to find his place at Arsenal, but he will not be signing for any other English clubs until at least January given that the window shut on Thursday.

Loan options are still viable, but some Arsenal fans are baffled that the right-back remains an official player for the Gunners.

It is unlikely that Jenkinson will get much game time under manager Unai Emery this season.

Hector Bellerin is currently the first-choice right-back, but the new boss recruited another player for that position in the form of Stephan Lichtsteiner, who signed from Juventus on a free transfer at the start of summer.

On Reddit, some Arsenal fans have expressed their views on Jenkinson still being part of the squad.
