Following the announcement that Arsene Wenger was going to resign as Arsenal manager at the end of the season, the majority of supporters expressed gratitude towards their coach of two decades.

For so long, many called for the North London outfit to sack Wenger due to the continued failure to launch a serious challenge for the Premier League title.

Once the news they were all hoping for came, many fans took a softer approach towards the manager until Thursday night's Europa League semi-final first leg against Atletico Madrid.

Arsenal put in a decent performance on the Emirates turf and they were rewarded with a goal not long after the half-hour mark from Alexandre Lacazette.

However, in the final 10 minutes, defensive errors led to Antoine Griezmann scoring an equaliser and what could turn out to be a crucial away goal.

Diego Simeone's side now have the advantage heading into the second leg at the Vicente Calderon.

After the match, the hatred for Wenger soon returned on social media.
