Many Arsenal supporters were left unconvinced by Rob Holding’s performance against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup, with fans insinuating he may not be their answer to Unai Emery’s defensive issues.
The Gunners squandered a two-goal lead against Crystal Palace last weekend, with the North Londoners’ defensive fragilities coming to the fore.
Luka Milivojevic pulled the Eagles back to within one from the spot when Wilfried Zaha tangled with Calum Chambers’ dangled foot, before Palace struck on the break when Jordan Ayew headed home James McArthur’s back-post cross.
Roy Hodgson’s Selhurst Park natives could even have struck a late winner had it not been for a tactical foul by Matteo Guendouzi, whose rugby-esque challenge on Zaha denied the Ivory Coast forward a chance to counter.

Emery dropped Sokratis Papastathopoulos and David Luiz for Wednesday night’s EFL Cup clash with Liverpool in favour of rotation, with Holding and Shkodran Mustafi tasked with keeping the Reds at bay.
The pair failed in their duties, though, as Mustafi opened the scoring for Jurgen Klopp’s Merseysiders before the Reds fired a further four past them to take the tie to penalties.
Holding’s role in proceedings has left many Arsenal fans questioning the 24-year-old, with one suggesting he may be their ‘most overrated player’ and another claiming the ex-Bolton man was ‘woeful’.
The Stalybridge-born centre-half won both of his two attempted tackles recorded by WhoScored on Wednesday, along with one interception, five clearances and won two of three aerial duels.
Here are some of the messages shared on his performance against Liverpool…
Rob Holding looked woeful tonight. He needs a lot of time.
Has he become our most overrated player?

Rob Holding. You know. He’s not as good as you think.
There’s a lot of fans hoping he is the answer when he’s not the solution. He’s a good player to have for the squad but he’s physically weak. Tries to think he can ping cross field passes that he struggles with.

Holding had a nightmare. Not ready to start in the league yet. Mustafi was decent.

Holding isnt ready to start yet imo he has looked shaky which is understandable and even if he is Luiz is far better than Papa
