Arsenal fans want Cazorla to make a stunning return before end of the season

For so long there were concerns that Santi Cazorla’s playing days were over due to numerous devastating setbacks during the Arsenal midfielder’s recovery from injury.

What initially seemed to be an innocuous Achilles problem in October 2016 turned into a tough battle physically and mentally.

Cazorla, who has won three club trophies in his career, underwent nine operations, and at one point feared that his foot would have to be amputated due to infection.

It seems that the worst of the storm has now passed given that he has stepped up his recovery in a bid to return to competitive action.

With Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger due to resign at the end of the season, Cazorla is targeting a shock comeback.

In an interview with AS, the Spaniard said:

“The objective is to play some part with the team before the season ends, but we have to take things carefully.”

Arsenal currently sit sixth in the Premier League table, with games against Burnley, Leicester City and Huddersfield Town left to play.

The club also have a Europa League semi-final second leg against Atletico Madrid coming up, and Wenger will be hoping that they can make an impact at the Vicente Calderon following a 1-1 draw at the Emirates.

Arsenal need to win the second-tiered European competition in order to qualify for a place in next season’s Champions League.

At the moment, though, the fans are only interested in Cazorla making a surprise return.
