Arsenal given new hope in transfer pursuit

QPR 'keeper Julio Cesar

QPR goalkeeper Julio Cesar is still hopeful of leaving Loftus Road this summer, reports the Standard.

The Brazilian, who has been a transfer target for Arsenal, failed to move to Fiorentina due to financial reasons.

But Cesar is still hopeful he can move away from the Championship side, with just under three weeks left of the transfer window still remaining.

“I am still a Queens Park Rangers player. A lot can happen before the end of August,” said the goalkeeper.

“At the moment my focus is on the national team and I am looking forward to seeing my team-mates again.”

Arsene Wenger has been looking for a new keeper to rival Wojciech Szczesny at the Emirates, but is still yet to sign one. And the door is still open for the experienced shot stopper, who won the Confederations Cup this summer with Brazil, to move across London to join the Gunners.

QPR, who have four points from a possible six in the Championship so far, are still desperate to get Cesar off their wage bill. The former Inter Milan stopper didn’t play in either match for the Hoops, with Rob Green taking his place in the starting XI.

While Wenger may consider moving for Cesar, he must also focus on his first match of the new Premier League season against Aston Villa on Saturday.

Would Cesar do well at Arsenal? Do the Gunners need another keeper?
