The Gunners have splashed the cash twice in the past two years to land Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez – who cost a combined figure of close to £80m – while last month’s transfer window was relatively successful with moves for Gabriel Paulista and Polish wonderkid Krystian Bielik having got over the line.
Wenger’s transfer business has been criticised in recent seasons, though, with many fans annoyed by his reluctance to match the spending power of the likes of City and Chelsea and an inability to bring in a top-class midfielder, which the Gunners have lacked since the exit of Patrick Vieira.
Parlour believes that the Frenchman’s squad is now strong, but that if the club have genuine title aspirations they must splash the cash when the transfer window re-opens:
“The squad they have now is very good, but the signings are important. The age of the squad is very good.” He is quoted by the Daily Star.
“This summer is going to be so important. They will get back to winning stuff.
“They could overturn Manchester City and Chelsea if they bring in the right players. It is time to kick on from last year’s FA Cup win.”
