Arsenal are hoping to wrap up a deal for Sporting Lisbon prodigy William Carvalho within the next two weeks, according to The Telegraph.
The Gunners were heavily linked with the Portugal international during the summer and reportedly failed with a deadline day bid, according to The Indepenent in September, whilst Manchester United were also mooted as potential suitors by The Daily Mail.
Since, Arsene Wenger has publicly called for a “a physical presence with prodigious ability like Vieira or Petit” in Arsenal’s midfield; measuring at 6 foot 2, weighing in excess of 14 stone and famed for his simple-yet-effective anchorman style, Carvalho more than fits the bill.
A recent restructuring of Sporting’s third party ownership arrangements, assuring them full profits from any future sale of the 22 year-old, add further weight to the speculation. It’s believed Carvalho deal will be in excess of £25million.
