Arsenal hoping big summer signing will convince key star to stay

Arsenal are hopeful their £35m move for Shkodran Mustafi will be enough to convince Mesut Ozil to stay at the Emirates Stadium, according to reports from the Mirror.

The Gunners added the Germany international to their squad as the transfer deadline approached after weeks of speculation surrounding a move for the ex-Valencia ace.

The huge fee paid and Mustafi’s obvious quality have created a feel-good factor among the club’s supporters – and reports claim Arsenal are optimistic that the signal of intent will be enough to convince Ozil to stay.

The playmaker’s future has been the subject of some debate in recent months, amid talk the London club have been struggling to agree terms on a new contract, while there were even suggestions Ozil would be open to re-joining former club Real Madrid.

Ozil and Mustafi are thought to be good friends from their time together at international level, as part of the Germany squad that won the 2014 World Cup.
