Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is considering a move for Lazio’s Cristian Ledesma in January, according to the player’s agent.
The 32-year-old Argentine-born ace has been one of the Rome giants’ key players for some time, and is believed to be seen as a short-term option by the Gunners coach following Jack Wilshere and Mikel Arteta’s injury woes.
With his contract expiring at the end of the season a cut-price winter move is a possibility, and Ledesma’s agent, Vincenzo D’Ippolito, has confirmed that the Londoners are looking at his client:
“It is true, Arsenal are interested in Cristian,” he is quoted by the Daily Mail.
“There have been scouts, we’ll see if there will be an opportunity to examine an offer.”
An experienced Serie A midfielder, the South American native has only ever been capped once at senior international level – by adopted nation Italy – and has spent his entire senior career in the European nation with Lecce and Lazio after playing as a youth star for Boca Juniors.
Wenger refereed a charity match in Rome during the summer, which was a game in which the veteran playmaker participated.
