Arsenal keen on January move for Belgian ace

Chrstian Benteke (Aston Villa)Arsenal may turn to Aston Villa’s Christian Benteke in January as they step up their pursuit of a new striker, according to reports from the Daily Mail.

The Gunners are widely expected to delve into the transfer market this winter in a bid to bolster their attacking options.

Arsene Wenger is believed to be concerned about his side’s reliance on the in-form Olivier Giroud, with the Frenchman short on back-up options for his centre-forward.

Lukas Podolski and Theo Walcott could step in in the event of an injury or suspension, but with both players frequently used in wider roles, Nicklas Bendtner appears to be second in line to the ex-Montpellier man.

Benteke is seen as a good option by Wenger, who may meet Villa’s £28m valuation of their star man in January.

The burly Belgian has developed into one of the Premier League’s top marksmen since his arrival last year, and was linked with a move away from the Midlands during the summer.

Despite handing in a transfer request, Benteke eventually penned a new deal, but is still thought to be open to a big move ahead of the 2014 World Cup.
