Arsenal keen on Serie A star

Gokhan Inler (Napoli)Arsenal are pondering a January move for Napoli midfielder Gokhan Inler, according to reports from talkSPORT.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is known to be a long-term admirer of the Swiss international, and was linked with a swoop for his signature over the summer.

The Frenchman may now reignite his interest as he steps up his plans to keep his side in the fight for the Premier League title.

A rugged holding midfielder is believed to be a priority for Wenger, and he sees Inler as the ideal man for the job.

The 28-year-old has developed a reputation for his tough-tackling approach in Serie A, where he is regarded as one of the division’s top midfield talents.

Turkish giants Galatasaray are also keen, but it is thought that a move to England would be more appealing to Inler.

A fee of £12.5m is thought to be enough to secure the Napoli man, which would barely make a dent in Wenger’s rumoured £40m-50m winter war chest.

Inler would face competition from the likes of Aaron Ramsey, Mathieu Flamini and Mikel Arteta, but his combative edge makes him more suited to holding role than Arsenal’s current options.
