Arsenal keen to prove star’s wonderstrike was no fluke

Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny boasts a pretty strong shout for the Premier League’s goal of the weekend after netting an overhead volley against Southampton.

The Frenchman found himself free at a corner and latched onto a loose ball by twisting his body in the air and drilling it into the back of Fraser Forster’s net, drawing the Gunners level in an eventual 2-1 win.

Koscielny’s an incredibly talented footballer – arguably one of the best defenders in the world – but the strike was certainly unexpected from a centre-back celebrating his 31st birthday.

But if you thought that goal was a fluke, you might be wrong. Arsenal’s official Twitter account are certainly keen to convince you otherwise, posting this video to their followers earlier today:

It may not be a bicycle kick but a ‘Rabona’ flying straight into the top corner is equally impressive, especially for a centre-back.

And while we’re on the matter of Koscielny, he now appears to be in contention to start against PSG tomorrow night despite suffering a facial injury against Southampton.
