Arsenal have turned their attention towards Ajax full-back Nicolas Tagliafico in the hunt for Nacho Monreal's successor, CalcioMercato reports.

What's the word?

Unai Emery's Arsenal side are on a thrilling run of 11 consecutive victories but there is still work for the Gunners to do ahead of the stern fight for a top-four finish and the Champions League football that comes with it.

Finding a successor to ageing full-back Nacho Monreal is a priority for Arsenal and CalcioMercato report that the Gunners are keeping tabs on Ajax's Nicolas Tagliafico ahead of a potential swoop for the Argentine ace.

The 26-year-old only arrived at the Dutch side in January, sealing a move from Independiente in his homeland, but could be on the move once again after shining during the club's impressive start in the Eredivisie this season.

A good option?

Monreal, now 32, is well into the twilight years of his career and his current contract is due to expire at the end of the season, which puts Arsenal under pressure to find a replacement as Sead Kolasinac is yet to prove his worth in the squad.

Tagliafico is extremely attack-minded and could fit into Unai Emery's side superbly with the Gunners putting an emphasis on having their full-backs play on the front foot, as shown by Hector Bellerin's display in the recent victory over Leicester.

Valued at £14.4m by TransferMarktthe ten-time Argentina international would be an affordable option for Arsenal to ease the concerns of a position that has been somewhat problematic for Emery this season with Monreal and Kolasinac both spending time out injured.
