Arsenal leading race for Argentine hit-man

Real Madrid's Gonzalo HiguainArsenal are currently leading the race for Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain’s signature, according to reports from The Metro.

Arsene Wenger is believed to have made securing a guaranteed source of goals one of his top priorities this summer, and has outlined the Argentine international as one of his prime targets.

Despite being thought of as one of the top front-men in Europe, Higuain is said to be free to leave the Bernabeu for the right offer in the coming months, and has admitted that he is open to a switch.

Wenger is keen to take advantage of this, and has reportedly held talks with the 25-year-old’s father, Jorge, to discuss the possibility of a move.

Juventus were believed to be favourites to land Higuain, but the conversation between the Frenchman and the striker’s representatives was said to have been positive.

Wenger is thought to have the funds at his disposal to arrange a deal, and could swoop quickly to fend off any interest from other Premier League clubs.

Real are demanding £25m, but the Gunners are keen to negotiate a lower fee.

Higuain has averaged nearly a goal every other game in the Spanish capital, but the La Liga giants are believed to be keen on luring signing a new big name forward this summer.

Can Gonzalo Higuain score the goals to take Arsenal back to the summit of English football?
