Arsenal leading race for ‘unhappy’ £55m star

Arsenal are at the front of the queue for unsettled Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani, according to reports from the Daily Star.

The Gunners were linked with the Uruguayan ace over the summer, but eventually opted to sign Danny Welbeck in a late move after the star admitted that he was willing to stay in France after a rocky season.

Cavani was understood to have been under the impression that he would have a more prominent role this term – he was often used out wide to accommodate Zlatan Ibrahimovic last time around – yet he has spent much of the campaign playing in the same role.

This has led to talk that he will opt to leave Paris in January or at the end of the season, and former PSG goalkeeper Jerome Alonzo is convinced that the striker is unhappy:

“We no longer recognize Cavani. He looks sad, his eyes no longer sparkle.” He wrote in French newspaper Le Parisien.

“With Cavani before, Paris can score a fourth goal late in the game. But his game is stereotyped.”

Arsene Wenger admitted that he was a fan of the South American recently, which has fuelled talk that the Londoners are poised to move for him.

Cavani is also wanted by Liverpool and Manchester United and is likely to cost around £55m.
