Arsenal have kicked off their 2019/20 Premier League campaign with a 1-0 victory over Steve Bruce’s Newcastle United side.
The game was by no means a classic – not by standards set by a certain 4-4 meeting in 2011 – but it did have its talking points.
Unai Emery handed starting spots to three academy products in Reiss Nelson, Joe Willock and Ainsley Maitland-Niles, and all handled themselves with a level of maturity and vigour that we expect would lead to supporters scrambling to their keyboards after full-time to proudly announce they’d been watching the quartet since youth level, and ‘always knew they’d win Arsenal the title.’
After all, who doesn’t love seeing ‘one of their own’ rise through the ranks and achieve global stardom? No one – that’s who.
Club legend Ian Wright was amongst the admirers and took to Instagram to give one of the newbies, Nelson, 19, praise for his performance…

Potentially good times ahead for Arsenal in the future, then.
