Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira is keen to land former teammate Ashley Cole as he begins life as New York City FC manager, according to the Daily Mail.
Cole, 34, has been out in the cold at Italian giants Roma after joining them in 2014 following the expiration of his deal with Chelsea.
The 107 capped ex-England international has been left out of both squads for Serie A and Champions League competition and looks increasingly likely to leave on a free next month.
He had been linked with both Aston Villa and Manchester United in what would be an emotional return to the Premier League, a competition he won three times across his glittering career.
However, his former Gunners skipper is apparently keen to land him and save him from his nightmare in the Italian capital.
The French coach is taking his first step into full time management after previously taking charge of Manchester City’s youth teams.
While the MLS had been wary of adding too many ageing stars to their ranks, it is thought that the legendary defender is still of the required standard to play at a high level.
Former Chelsea and England teammate Frank Lampard is also with the club as they prepare for life under Vieira.
