Arsenal line up shock move for Colombian goal machine

Jackson MartinezArsenal are considering a January move for Porto striker Jackson Martinez, according to reports from TuttoMercato.

Gunners chief Arsene Wenger is believed to have made top quality centre-forward one of his transfer priorities for the winter as he looks to build on his side’s impressive start to the Premier League season.

Olivier Giroud is the Frenchman’s only experienced option in the role, which is believed to be a source of concern.

Martinez has emerged as one of Europe’s most feared marksmen with Porto since his arrival at the club last year.

The Colombian forward has netted an incredible 37 times in 47 appearances, helping his club side to claim the Portuguese league title.

His form has alerted a number of top clubs from across the continent, with Arsenal the latest in a long line of potential suitors.

Porto have developed a reputation for nurturing South American talent before selling for high fees, with Radamel Falcao and Hulk two recent examples of their methods.

The Estadio do Dragao side are in no desperate need to sell Martinez, thanks to having allowed James Rodriguez and Joao Moutinho to leave for Monaco for a combined £70m.

But, Arsenal are hopeful that they can convince them to sell this winter.

Could Jackson Martinez fire Arsenal to the title?
