Arsenal lining up shock £16m Newcastle raid

Arsenal are considering a £16m January raid for Newcastle’s Moussa Sissoko, according to reports from The Mirror.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is understood to have made an all-action central midfield player a top target for next month after losing the likes of Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey to injury recently.

Sissoko is a star to have been linked with the north Londoners on a number of occasions in the past, and his displays during the Magpies’ revival over the last couple of months has alerted the Emirates Stadium chief.

The energetic enforcer has confessed his love for Arsenal of late, with former Highbury star Patrick Vieira his idol.

Arsenal have around £20m to spend when the transfer window opens, with a centre-back also on the wish list.

Newcastle are desperate to keep their man, but Sissoko’s own desire to move to a Champions League club may leave them powerless to resist sizable offers.

The same happened with Yohan Cabaye earlier this year and Mathieu Debuchy, now an Arsenal player, during the last window.
