Arsenal have been linked with Real Madrd’s Gonzalo Higuain, Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan and Bayer Leverkusen’s Lars Bender.
Chief executive Ivan Gazidis promised Wenger ‘an escalation in our financial firepower’ last week and the Frenchman has set his sights high in the transfer window.
Higuain and Gundogan are both expected to cost £20million each, whilst Bender could be available for £17million.
The Argentine forward scored 16 La Liga goals this season, whilst Gundogan scored the equalising penalty in the Champions League final, before Arjen Robben won the match for Bayern Munich late on.
Arsene Wenger has already suffered disappointment before the transfer window even started, after missing out on German youngster Mario Gotze. The club had a £25m bid for Gotze turned down and were hopeful of returning this summer with £32m, which would have activated his release clause. But Gotze announced in April that he would be joining Bayern.
Arsenal will face a fight to sign Higuain, with Serie A champions Juventus also linked with the Argentine striker.
The Gunners have cleared their wage bill ahead of the transfer window after releasing Andrey Arshavin and Sebastien Squillaci.
Are the trio what Arsenal need for next season? And can Wenger convince the three to join? Have your say below.
