The Gunners are looking for a defensive midfielder this summer, and could turn to Premier League rivals Manchester City for the answer.
Arsene Wenger has recently been told they won’t be signing Bayer Leverkusen’s Lars Bender, and the Frenchman could turn his attention to Barry instead with the Englishman being considered as more of a squad player than a regular in the starting XI.
Barry has just one year left on his £100,000-a-week contract at City, and has been tipped for a summer exit since Manuel Pellegrini arrived at the Etihad.
The midfielder is believed to be valued at around £3.5million, and he has also interested north London rivals Spurs, as they look to replace Scott Parker. Both sides wouldn’t offer Barry the same wages he is on at City, however.
Wenger was interested in signing Barry five years ago, when he was at Aston Villa, but City beat the Gunners and Liverpool to the midfielder’s signature with a £12million bid.
However, it now seems that the 32-year-old’s time at the Etihad is over, as the club have no interest in offering the Englishman a new contract and are happy to listen to offers this summer.
Would Barry do well at the Emirates? Are there better options out there?
